An Overlook Of
is a series of works that I conceived during my undergraduate leave of absence, a period of reevaluating my mindset and life direction. The title means to oversee, overseeing
people, art, and photography. The series consists of three main themes: Fall from Grace, Within…, and Balance. Taking a panoramic perspective, the work contemplates the journey of
individuals from birth to the emergence of consciousness and conflict (cyclical mini-deaths), ultimately reaching a balanced state akin to rebirth. Contrasting with the three parts of the
abstract, the three themes employ different photographic techniques and equipment, combined with diverse materials and expressive methods, creating the conceptual
essence intended by this series.

“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” — Genesis

During my junior high to high school years, I attended a Christian boarding school. Upon enrollment, each of us received a Bible, which I rarely flipped through. However, listening to others,
such as the school's pastor, narrate Bible stories was something I quite enjoyed. Over the six years of my formative social perspective, influenced by the school and the classical music and
paintings I loved, many of which depicted images or associations with God, my imagination of life and death gradually became influenced.

Fall From Grace
, as the first part, represents both birth and culmination, it doesn't pinpoint a specific moment in time; rather, it captures a state of being. When humans first arrived on Earth,
akin to Adam and Eve or other creatures existed in the purest and clearest state, devoid of thoughts and memories. They knew to eat when hungry, and sleep when it got dark – all actions
guided by instinct, approaching a state of innocence close to ignorance. However, this is also a form of closure. After experiencing the emergence of consciousness and ideas, criticism and
injustice, conflict and struggle, imbalance and balance, humans return to a pristine final state. This moment represents the conclusion of one cycle in life, signifying both an end and the
beginning of a new cycle.

They hold hands, like seagulls spreading their wings and gliding over the sea. The horizon stretches for hundreds of miles until it meets the sky – a place with purple mountains, green milk,
and nights as blue as laundry water. “I appreciate the paintings you make — you radiate a concentrated, pure energy, like clear crystals.” She looks up at him, twinkle, twinkle, little star.

She has been numbing for quite some time. She wonders whether words can truly capture the essence of truth, or if truth transforms the words we choose. In a dream, she finds herself by
the water’s edge, surrounded by trees and bungalows on the opposite shore. The water is still, without waves or currents, rising and falling like a sleeping chest. The white clouds and
telephone poles on the grassy slope move rhythmically. The sky is awash with colors that only newborn eyes can perceive.

“Have you ever imagined your birth? The gray-blue clouds spread like fluffy and spacious quilts, while the sky's light forms waves of gold, gently fluctuating. It is the higher dimension of
existence, also known as Heaven. Each little angel has their number plate and waits to descend to Earth. When the time comes, God will bend down, pat the little angel on the back, and say,
“It’s your turn.”

“I became a human while opening my eyes again. There were streams, crystal air, and plants with different shades. Countless creatures and objects filled my view, colors too numerous for my
brain to distinguish, clothes too plentiful for my body to wear, and places too vast for one lifetime to fully explore. It’s another kind of paradise.
